Head Lice Facts

By Jordan Max at 2010-11-19 00:05:33
A mature female louse has the ability to lay about six eggs a day on average. This rate of breeding makes getting rid of head lice a challenge. Getting rid of head lice is a challenge as it required constant effort and never ending determination until every last parasite is either killed or removed.

Head lice have been on the earth since prehistoric times and this is a testament to the creature's survival. Scientists have determined that lice have probably lived as long as humans. Other scientists have said that lice might have come from monkeys and then evolved to entirely rely on humans.

The patently human 'fight or flight' response renders them unable to think of anything other a large hole swallowing them (flight) usually followed by an almost irresistible urge to do anything it takes (fight) to get rid of their head lice problem.

More infestation on female children has been recorded over the years. Head louse transfers faster through direct person to person contact. Parents are finding the best solution for head lice over the years and most of them prefer natural remedies rather than prescription medicine for the safety and protection of their children from the harsh elements of chemical ingredients of commercial lice shampoos and lotion.

I soon found that Head lice ( sometimes also referred to as louse ) are insects that live on the neck and scalp. Although they may make your head feel itchy, they do not usually cause illness. Their main damage appears to be embarrassment and discomfort., however, they do not clear up without treatment.

The difference between nits and Head Lice are that nits are the eggs. Nits are laid on the hair relatively close to the scalp. Reassuringly, head lice are not dangerous and they don't carry disease. However, they can be a problem if not treated and can infest anyone.

Nymphs look like adult lice and are yellow to rust brown colored located closely to the scalp and become adult in a span of seven to fourteen days too. When eggs hatched, they become adult lice and feed almost five times daily by sucking on small amount of blood in the scalp through their small sharp claws pierced into the scalp.

Still the most effective way of removing lice and lice eggs is through picking them one by one and also using head lice comb. This method doesn't involve application of any formulas into the hair to kill lice and nymphs. You can follow these simple steps to get rid with head lice infestation.

They are spread by direct contact between different people's hair. Coming very close to the head of someone who is infected with lice is therefore a great risk of infecting your own hair. This is why children are mostly affected by lice, as they usually have close head-to-head contacts when they are playing.

The nit hatches into a baby louse called a nymph.
